Garden of Goods
In an effort to increase traffic into a far-off corner of the store, the Anthropologie display team assembled an interesting floral arrangement made of household materials. Working with a small budget, we inventively deconstructed metal spoons, q-tips, coffee filters and card tags to mimic a few various types of flowers. We used a heat gun to melt spoons into sprawling petals before fusing them together and painting them red. To create dandelions, we dip-dyed the tips of q-tips with green acrylic paint and then cleverly drove the opposite end into styrofoam balls. Coffee filters helped us to make faux rose bouquets with just a few steps. After tearing off the filter’s edges to achieve a more natural look, we dyed each piece either yellow, brown or purple and then rolled and hot glued them into the shape of cones. Next we glued the vertex edge of the cones to cover the upper two-thirds of 1-2-feet-tall wooden dowels that would allow the bouquet to stand upright. We stuffed the stems of each of these “flowers” into neutral-painted styrofoam that we positioned around a mannequin standing atop a rustic wood table. The display created a garden of colour and texture that drew attention the merchandise being displayed.
