Autumn Desert

Anthropologie - a leading American boho-inspired women’s clothing and home decor retailer - always whisks their customers into a creative dreamland with their elaborate, whimsical installations.  For the 2016 autumn season, three display team members and I transformed the 3-meter storefront window area into a land of cacti to achieve the desert theme handed down from Home Office.

Over 5 weeks under the display coordinator’s direction, we cut canvas into the shape of cacti’ stems, sewed 3 pieces together, then dyed each new tube kelly green before filling them with sand to add weight and dimension.  Next we glued the hand-painted green and red flowers we made from stiffened paper and foam balls to the tip of each stem.  Last was trimming large styrofoam sheets and balls into life-size nopales and round cacti and assembling each piece into a lush, vertical display by nailing them onto a wood panel.
